CITY COUNCIL
FIRST MEETING OF 1913 The City Council held its first meeting in the New Year last evening. The Mayor (Mr. D. M'Laren) presided. The council was represented by Councillors Fletcher, Fitzgerald, Hindmarsh, Tre-* gear. Godber, Atkinson, Frost, Cohen,. Smith, Trevor, Fuller, Cameron, Barber, and M'Kenzie. The Finance Committee,recommended : That the question of paving the footpath along. L&ttibton-quay, near the Public Trust Building, 'be 'held over until next financial year. The recommendation was adopted. The Tramways Committee recommended :That, as recommended by the Tramways Board, the request of the Wadestown Municipal Electors' Association, that the fifteen minutes' service on the Wadestown line should commence at 4.18 p.m. instead of 4.48 p.m., be not granted. That, in accordance with the recommendation of the Tramways Board, the proposed tramway shel-ter-shed at the intersection of Motes-worth-street and Lambton-quay, opposite Government Buildings, be in the Government grounds and abutting on the footway, co that pedestrians could pass without inconvenierice, and that the Government' be. approached with a view to givingi effect, to this proposal. The recommendations were adopted. The Tramways Committee reported that^ it had given further consideration to the question of the acceptance of a tender for the printing of tram tickets referred back to them by the Council at last meeting, in connection with thehonprovision in the specification of a clause to provide for possible future alteration in the form of the tickets, and recommend that the tender of Messrs Turnbull, Hi<fcson. and Gooder be accepted, subject to a conditioh, to the satisfaction of the City Solicitor being added to the contract to safeguaid the council in the matter. The report was adopted. The Reserves Committee recommended : That the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board be granted a lease of about four acres of section 46, Town Belt, Ohiro-road, for one year at a rental of £1, for use by the Ohiro Home, provided the section is cleared of corse and the fences are kept in order. That tenders be called for the lease of Town Belt Reserve "G," Mitchelljtown, approximate area 4 acres, 1 rood. The recommeridations were adopted.
