WELLINGTON CENTRE A meeting of delegates to th© Wellington Centre, N.Z.A.A.A., was' held last evening, Mr. R. W. M'Villy presiding. The date for the championship meeting was definitely fixed as 15tlq February. The action of the Permit Committee in granting permits for various district meetings was approved. Following are dates hot yet passed : —Athletic F. 5.0., 29th January; Woodville A.A.C., 26th February. Mr. J. B. Holt, tendered his resignation from the position of walkihg judge to the Wellington Centre. Mr. W. L. Dunn expressed the opinion that Mr. Holt should be asked to reconsider the matter. It was desirable that there should be one judge for walking in the district so as to secure nniformity. It appeared that the . Wellington Club had gone, outside this rule in appointing other judges. Mr. Cozens (Wellington Club) supported Mr. Dunn in his l'eqaest to Mr. Holt to withdraw his resignation. They had every confidence in him,, .. Mr. Holt: I., thank the, -gentlemen for the statements they have made; but there are plenty of other -branches of athletic sports to afford me scope for activity in the future,, and- 1' intend to avail myself of them So far as walking is concerned I have decided to turn it up. , v The resignation was accepted with re» gret, and Mr. ■J. Ellis was- .appointed judge in Mr. Holt's place. It was decided . that , the handicap events at the New Zealahd champion^ ships be 220 yards flat and one' mile. It was resolved that His, Excellency the Governor be invited to be present at the New Zealand championship meeting. The following were constituted committees for the provincial .champion' ships :— Advertising,,, Messrs. J. B. Holt, W. H. Thompson, and W^ L. Dunn ; programme, Messrs. A. C. Kitto, L. Cozens, and A. T. Duhcan.; ground, Messrs. W. L. Dunn, T. W. Leslie, and C. Lamberg ; band, Mr. G. A. .Scott. On the motion of Mr. Duncan, it was resolved that, in future^ championship certificates should contain a record of times and such other important particu* Jars of the performance. For the provincial meeting, it wa« decided, that the pole vault be a, championship event instead of a handicap. The flame course wa/i adopted in regard to the hop, etep, and jump event, These events will now count for the provincial shield. Mr. Duncan moved: "That, in the, opinion of the Wellington Centre A. A. A., the granting of medals to winnow and seconds of New Zealand championships is out of date, and the W.C.A.A.A. etrongly urges the following method of awarding prizes :— (1) Winners of championships to have the option of selecting either the customary gold medal or a substantial' certificate and trophy to the value of JD2 2a, euch option to be exercised within one week of the holding of a .New Zealand championahik meeting, otherwise option to be presumed in favour of certificate and trophy, (2) Seconds in New Zealand championships to receive a substantial certificate only; all certificates to contain appropriate particulars of the performances in respect of which they are given!" Medals, the mover remarked,, were the relics of a barbarous age. Mr. Kitto seconded th& motion, which was carried, and will be forwarded to the New Zealand Council. •It was- proposed that a .conference of centres be held at the .time, of ..the New Zealand championship ■ meeting. • Centres , will be advised and, required ,to apfioiht delegates. ,< . --, , . „;.
