A cablegram reports that adverse comment has been made ih New Zealand on the action of the Royal Humane Society in awarding medals to Solomons and Say for their attempted rescue of a bather at Sunnier. It i* stated that it is complained that all Solomons did wae to act as firet man in a life-savina team which went to the rcecue, and which was unsuccessful. Solomons explains that the announcement In the published cable message was the first, lie knew of the awarde. The rescue was attempted under toying circumstances. Tho team was about to give an exhibition of life-saving near the pier on the beach when a.n alarm was given, and the whole team raced along the sand, six or eeven hundred yards. Then 1 Solomons went out. The 'sea wae exceedingly rough, and the swimmers were a long way from the shore when the man disappeared before •he could be reached. Solomons eaid ho was surprised at the reported attitude in Now Zealand, because the paper* at the time were full of the attempted rescue, and complimented the life-savers on their plucky efforts, while the Mayor of Chrietchurch visited the bathe, and thanked the Sydney men for their efforts.
