ANOTHER FIRE AT CAMBRIDGE
SAME PEOPLE BURNT OUT AGAIN POLICE DETAIN A MAN* (BY TBLIGRAPH— PAWS ASSOCIATION.) CAMBRIDGE, This Day. In the early hours of this morning Cambridge experienced another destructive fire, thus quickly following the extensive damage wrought by Monday's conflagration. On Monday CroWther and Bell, livery stable proprietors, were burnt right out, Suffering loss to the extent of £2600, their insurance only being £1250. Yesterday they purchased £he stables owned by tne rival proprietor and transferred their business to those quarters. It was at their new stables that the fire broke out this morning. The whole structure and practically all the plant therein were demolished. Sheds adjoining, belonging to local storekeepers, contained benzine, gunpowder, and gelignite, and there was great excitement until these dangerous explosives were removed. The firemen worked nobly, and thanks to their efforts and the fact that there was no wind blowing, the fire did not spread to the neighbouring properties. Great sympathy is felt for Messrs. Orowther and Bell in their second loss of some hundreds of pounds, it being doubtful ii any of their belongings are covered by insurance. The building belonged to Mr. Seth Webb, and was valued at £400, being insured for £150 with the Ocean Company. The cause of the fire is probably accidental through careless smoking, out in the meantime a man hag been detained by the police on suspicion of having been on the premises at the time of the outbreak. . OUTBREAK AT CHRISTCHURCH. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A fire at 3.30 this morning in Ollivier'sroad totally destroyed a four-roomed house owned by Mr. M'Causland. It contained furniture, but was unoccupied. The insurances are not available.
