Well up to time— in fact, somewhat earlier than has been the case with the direct passenger boats from Sydney lately— the Huddart* Parker Company's Ulimaroa arrived in port at 6.20 o'clock this morning, after a pleasant and uneventful trip across the Tasman. i Sydney Heads were cleared at 1.18 p.m. on Saturday last, and the vessel met with hazy weather, together with a northerly breeze and moderate seas, until yesterday, when south-westerly winds were encountered. Farewell Spit light was passed at 7 o'clock laet night, and Up till that time the vessel had made very fast steaming time . Thenceforward she steamed at half speed until arrival as above. During this last stage of the journey fairly heavy rain was encountered, The Moeraki, which left Wellington on Friday for Sydney direct, was passea quite close at 10.30 p.m, on Sunday. The Ulimaroa berthed at No. 1, north, Queen's Wharf, where she commenced discharge of a small' general cargo for this port. To-morrow evening departure will be taken for Melbourne, via southern ports and Hobart, and, weather permitting, a call will also be made at Milford Sound. ( WAIHORA DUE SATURDAY, On Monday afternoon the Union Company's steamer Waihora arrived at Auckland from Calcutta, via Singapore and Samarang. She hafl a big Eastern cargo for the four principal New Zealand ports. The vessel is to leave the northern port on Thursday for Wellington, and is therefore due here next Saturday. She has 2668 tons of general merchandise to discharge locally. The Waihora will leave thiß port on Monday ior Lyttelton and Port Chalmers. From the latter port the Vessel is to Bail about the end of the month for Newcastle, Java, and Calcutta, She will take the March loading at Calcutta for New Zealand ports. TITANIA SOLD. After examining the four-masted barquentine Titania in dock at Sydney, Captain S. Holm, of Wellington, has decided to purchase the vet>* nel, which will replace the Helen Denny, now being converted into a hulk here. The Titania will be engaged in carrying coal from Newcastle to New Zealand, and is about to load at the New South Wales port for Wellington. She 'will return to Australia with timber. The Titania is a steel vessel of 1107 tons gross. !she was built in 1896 by Russell and Co., of Port Glasgow, for W. ft. Reynolds. Her principal dimensions are;— Length 210 ft, beam 35.0 ft, depth 19.6 ft. The Awaroa Is running excursions in the harbour to-day, and her departure for Nelson and Motueka has been accordingly postponed until Thursday. The New Plymouth Harbour Board's dredge Paritutu, which arrived in port on Sunday to undergo overhaul, was placed on the Patent Slip yesterday. ; The Clan Ogilvy, now loading wool at the King's Wharf, will sail for London, via Suez, on Thursday next. Last evening the Union Company's collier Pukaki was to have left Westport with coal for Apia, Samoa. The steamer Inveric, which was here recently under charter to the Union Company, has been further chartered to load coal at Newcastle for Valparaiso. While in Newcastle the Inveric came into collision Xvith the steamer Cycle. She was not damaged, but tho Cycle had a plate dented, and 20 rivets started. It was proposed that the Nikau should undergo overhaul at Nelson this week, but this has i now been postponed, and the vessel will run as Usual. The Alexander, which was to take the place of the Nikau, will be here on Friday, and will sail the same day for Nelson and I Coast. The Hula was despatched to Wanganui last night. The departure of the Stormbird has been postponed until Thursday. The Putiki is due back from Wanganui next Friday, with a full load of wool. The Westmeath, due here on tho 4th February, is bringing 3400 tons of Liverpool cargo consigned to Wellington. The Buteshire (from New York) duo on the 14th February, has 000 tons on board for this port. The Arapawa is fixed to sail this evening for PUponga to load coal for a coastal port. Sailing yesterday afternoon for Foxton the Queen of the South will not be back until Friday, owing to a holiday at that port. She Will return to Foxton the same day. The Union Company's cargo carrier Kaitun* left Edithburg last Thursday for Hobart, Wellington, Napier, and New Plymouth. She is bringing a full cargo of salt. Mr. lielly is at present chief engineer of the Ulimaroa in place of Mr. Scott, who Is on holiday leave. The Warrimoo— this week's direct boat from Wellington to Sydney— was to have sailed from Dunedin at SJ o'clock this afternoon in continuation of her trip from Melbourne and Hobart to Wellington, via southern ports. She is due in port ou Friday afternoon, and sails at 5 p.m, the same day for Sydney direct, The Union Company's Foherua, which is relieving the Taviuni, Is to sail from Dunedin on Friday, After calling at Timaru and Lyttelton the Vessel should arrive here on Tuesday next.
