SELECTION OF EXAMINERS. (BT TELEGRAPtf— FRfcSS ASSOCIATION,) AUCKLAND, 21st Jahuary. Th« University Senate vesolved to ask the Government to amend the Mining and Coal Mines Act; to enable graduates in mining engineering to obtain managers' certificates on the production of certificates from authorised managers that they have been employed in underground workings for three years. The Senate rejected a motion by Professor Hunter that it lie an instruction to any committee that has to nominate New Zealand examiners to firßt report, for the approval of the Senate, the principle it proposes to follow in the seloction of examiners. There was a long discussion on ff motion that 1 there should be one pit!* degree in arts and science, as recommended by the Professorial Conference. The motion was defeated by 14 to 8. Professors Brown (2), Chilton, Slight, Hunter, Mr. Hogben, and the Rev. W. A. Evans being among those in the minority.
