• . ■■■ .», , A meeting of directors 'of the J>ominion Portland Cement Company, Ltd., was held .yesterday. Mr. V. F. Reed, M.P., chairman of directors, pvesided, and there were also present tho Hon. R. H. Rhodes, and. Messrs. T. Buxton, M.P., R. M'Nab, C. Slack,,, and G. Winstone, . jun. A further 12,000 shares were allotted, bringing the issue of contributing shares up to, • 80,000. The works- manager (Mr. W., J. Wilson), who was present at the] meeting, submitted a report, in which he gave details of a recent inspection of the company's property. Mr. Wil* son. stated that as a result of soundings taken in the Whangarei harbour, he -was prepared to recommend a site for a wharf, which would give a minimum depth of '26ft at low tide, 1 thus enabling loading to 'be carried out at any time.' He had also made a close inspection of the property with a view to the erection of a suitable site for the works .>nd quarry, and was satisfied that an excellent • Bito. adjacent 'to thu wharf, could be obtained without difficulty, Other necessary work had been carried out by him with a view to an early BtaM being made with the commencement of active operations regarding tho installation of the necessary plant, lite question of lhe > early acquirement of plant and machinery of the latest and tnost suitable type was also discussed with Mr. Wilson. It was decided to provide a suitable guarantee in connec* tion with the installation by tho Whan* gnrei Borough Council of electric power, to be generated from the Wairua Culls. A sub-committee, consisting of tile chairman (Mr. Reed), and Messrs. tt. Wilson, S. J. Nathan, and G. Winetone, jun., was appointed to confer with the works manager, and arrango other matters requiring attention. Mr. W. J. Wilson returns to Whangarei at once to continue life work in connection with the arrangements for the layingout of the works on the company's properties.
