Heavy westerly gales were experienced in the south yesterday, with decreasing force generally since last night, but gales were still reported in the southernmost districts this morning. Conditions have been very warm and sultry in the east coast districts, and thunderstorms occurred in parts of the higher levels in the south yesterday afternoon. Generally, however, the disturbance has been accompanied with an 'inusually low rainfall in proportion to its intensity. Heavy showers fell on the West Coast and southern districts, but conditions generally show an Improvement there this morning. ' TO-DAY'S WEATHER. From observations taken at 9 a.m.
