To-day— 9.3o a.m., 59.84; noon, 29,84. ' NEW ZEALAND. SYNOPSIS OF LAST 24 HOtRS. An intense westerly storm area has passed southward of New Zealand. Heavy westerly gales were experienced in the south yesterday, with decreasing force generally since last night, but gales were still reported in the southernmost districts this morning. Conditions have been very warm and sultry in the east coast districts, and thunderstorms occurred in parts of the higher levels in the south yesterday afternoon. Generally, however, the disturbance has been accompanied with an 'inusually low rainfall in proportion to its intensity. Heavy showers fell on the West Coast and southern districts, but conditions generally show an Improvement there this morning. ' TO-DAY'S WEATHER. From observations taken at 9 a.m.

At 0 a.m. to-day the following forecast was issued for tho subsequent 24 hours:-' Winds.— Southerly winds, moderate to' strong, generally, and strong to gale at times in the southernmost districts and on the east coast. Barometer.— Rise slowly everywhere. Bea.— 'Heavy in Foveaux Strait; moderate northward of Eftst Cape; considerable elsewhere. Tides.— High in Foveaut Strait; moderate northward of East Cape; good elsewhere. Warning signals for southerly gales are exhibited at Cape Campbell, Farewell Spit, and Foulwind, Nugget Point, and Centre Island. Weather.— Fair to cloudy weather in the north, but there are indications for thunderstorms, with .heavy showers, on all the eastern coasts and southward of East Cape, also in the southern districts.
