PRISONER'S ESCAPE AND RECAPTURE

Albert Durant, a native of Italy, serving three years' reformatory -treatment at. the Waipa tree-pl&ntlntt camp, escaped from custody at 5 o'clock on Christmas Day. He was recaptured after eighteen hours' liberty, and to-day the Magistrate (Mr. Dyer) sentenced him to two years' imprisonment, with hard labour.
