("NQUEST ON EVANS ADJOURNED bUBPfIISE PACKET FOX HOSPITAL BOARD. (BY TELEGKAPH— PEESS ASSOCIATION.) WAIHI, This Day. The inquest in connection with the death of Evans has been adjourned till Wednesday. The Police- Force stationed here have voluntarily subscribed amongst themselves £40 to the Waihi Hospital, as a mark of the kindness shown them by the .local citizens. The donation was a surprise packet lo tho board, who accepted the amount with grateful thanks.

Island traders, claiming for the value of fruit which the s.s. Maitai failed to take from Rarotonga, were in Court all ' day yesterday. The principal plaintiff was Carl Kohn, and the defendant was the Union S.S. Co., Ltd. Mr. C. B. MorJeon, K.C., with him Mr. A. Fair, appeared for the plaintiffs j and Sir Johii Findlay, K.C., with him Mr. P. Leyi, for the defendant. Plaintiffs claimed damages amounting to £1022 9s. It» \va3 agreed that the only question to be submitted to the jury should be that of the amount of damage suffered by plaintiffs. Evidence was called, and addressee were delivered upon this point. The jury, after a short retirement, assessed the amount _at 4s 6d per Case, or a total of £836 lls. Counsel then called further evidence upon the issue of liability, which is to be determined by the Judge alone. Legal argument will be heard at a later date. The public arc reminded that special trips will be run to H.M.S. Drake by tho Ferry Company to-morrow, starting <it 1.15 p.m._ This will give the public an opportunity of viewing this large warship. Mrs. J. Donaldson, who has recently arrived from Scotland, comes to Wellington credentials as a lecturer and medium, having hatl fifteen years' experience, and late president of the Dunfermline Spiritualists' Association and member of the Edinburgh Spiritualists' Association. Mrs. Donaldson, has engaged the Boulcott-street Hall for the next and following five Sunday evenings, and will give a series _of lectures upon various phases of Spiritualism. Tho sacred concert that was to havo been given by tho Tramways Band a,t the King's Theatre on Sunday night has been postponed till a later date. Messrs. 'The same firm are -advertising a property sale, to be hold at their auction rooms, on Tuesday, comprising Brooklyn Town Hill, with two shops and billiardroom adjoining, fivo residences in Joffer-eon-street, one residence in Northland,' and a section at Lowry Bay.
