The Premier (Mr. Denham), in his reply to tho Federal Prime Minister (Mr. Andrew Fisher) with reference to the Sugar Commission's report, added that aa the people of Australia desire tho sugar industry to be a white labour one, he would gladly support any arrangement to secure the realisation of this policy. In order to pay white workers the highest wages consistent with the prosperity of tlie industry, ho would promise to enlarge the Industrial Bill to include sugar workers. Commenting on the position in Queensland, tlie Premier said the State could easily raise the sugar required in Australia, but, he added, "under our artificial conditions, immediately wo reach Iho limit of Commonwealth consumption, production irt curt ailed, mid now that wo aro realising the conditions under which cano must be grown, and the importanco of settling tho north-ortsl. roast of Australia, any Bacrifico required will bring ample justification rthd reward."
