SUNDAY FILM SHOWS
The Guardian, commenting on the decision of the Birmingham magistrates against the opening of cinematograph theatres and other places of amusement on Sundays, says: — "Theoretically there is not b little to be said for such a course (the opening), which commends itself to some good Churchmen. But we are quite sure that tho Bishop was right to throw the weight of his name and office into the opposite scale. No local or partial question of Sunday entertainments can be ssttled without reference to the larger issues involved. Far too much of the Day of Rest has already been taken from the people by one concession, after another to demands for its secularisation, each < f which seemed rea«onable enough in its ■nay, but the cum of which means serious spiritual loss. Wherefore il behoves v* et tenuously to resist any further proposals in this direction."
