STATEMENT BY GERMAN CHANCELLOR. By Telegraph,— Presn Association,— Copyright. BERLIN, sth December. The Imperial Chancellor, Herr yon Bethmann-Hollwegg, has stated in the Reichstag that the decision of the Federal Council, in connection with Bavaria's request for a more liberal inter* pretaiion of the nnti'Jesnit laws, merely involved the codification of long-prevail-ing practices with regard to the Jesuits. If the Roman Catholic Centre party withdrew its confidence from the Government in consequence it would simply make the anti-Jesuit laws the keystone of a political programme. The antipathy of the Protestant towards tlie Jesuit Order was justified by the past of that Order. '. ELIMINATION OF CLERICAL CENTRE URGED. (Received December 6, 9.20 a.m.) BERLIN, 6th December. Arising out of the conflict between the Chancellor (Herr Bethmann.
