, \VAIHI, sth December. Messrs. W. E. Parry, W. M'Lennart, and Wesley" Richards' got an unwojoome reception at the Grand Junction mine this morning. They went to interview Mr; Grace, Superintendent, re Labour matters, but when they got on to the company's' property their passage was interrupted by a number of Workers, w)?o objected to their presence. The objectors eventually hustled them off the property. It appears that the party had obtained an interview with Mr. M'Cohanchie, tho mine manager, and the latter had referred them to Mr. Grace.. It was while looking 'for Mr. Grace that the workers interfered with the federationists, and, as alleged, assaulted them. M'Lennan, in, the course of hustling, was struck ort one of his eyes. Subsequently" they saw Mr. Grace. The latter,- on heading the account of the action of the men, disclaimed any knbwledge of the affair, and said > ho did not countenance such he* haviour. PAINTERS' DISPUTE INVERCARGILL, sth December. The Conciliation Commissioner, Mr. Triggs, held a sitting here to-day in the painters' dispute. The employers' assessors informed the Commissioner at the outset that they had. been instructed to oppose the men's demands ih toto, as they Were regarded as impossible. There was a, rather heated discussion, the Commissioner stating that it was tlje class of employers sitting at the table who Caused trouble in New Zealand, as they would not listen to a fair deal.
