SILVER PURCHASES FOR INDIA
MR. STUART SAMUEL EXPLAINS. By Telegraph.— Prew Aiaoclatlon.— Copyright. LONDON, 4th December. Mr. Stuart Samurl, M.P., in giving evidence before the Select Committee which is enquiring into tlio propriety of his position in Parliament, in consequence of the transactions ot the India Office with the banking firm in which he is a_ partner, stated that tho purchase of silver for the India Office had been entirely conducted by his partner. The witness was peisonally not cognisant of the transaction. A ring existed in India to buy up silver, and lm firm was the only one not connected with it, and therefore the India Office employed it lo make secret purchases.
