TO THEIR EXCELLENCIES FROM ARCHITECTS AND WOMEN'S INSTITUTIONS. As-a grateful souvenir of his services as Governor of New Zealand, His Excellency the Governor (Lord Islington) was yesterday, .is patron of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, presented by the council of the institute with the following address, richly illuminated and bound : '.'To His Excellency the Right Honour able John Poynder Dickson-Poynder, Baron Islington, P.C.. K.C.M.G., D.5.0., patron of the New Zealand Institute of Architects:— ■ "May it please Your Excellency: On the eve of Your Excellency's departure from this Dominion, the Council of the New Zealand Institute of Architects, for themselves and their fellow-members, desires to place on record their appreciation of the interest Your Excellency has shown in the welfare ,of this institute by accepting and occupying the office of its patron, and, while regretting Your Excellency's departure from amongst us, we earnestly hope that Your. Excellency may be pleased to continue your interest in oiir welfare, and that Your, Excellency, together with Her Excellency (Lady Islington) and you* daughter, may by the blessing of Almighty God continue to enjoy good health and happiness. ' In reply, His Excellency expressed his j gratification at the kindness of the j thought which had prompted the gift, | which, he assured the members present, he would esteem very' highly. .This afternoon a joint presentation of the various women's institutions in the city:, was > made to Lady Islington at Goyerriment . House in token of appreciation, of her services in' the' cause of women.. The gift took the form 6f an illuminated'address, bound in' New Zealand woods, and couched in the following, words of appreciation : .. "The. officers and members of' the Victoria' League, Girls' Branch •of the' Victoria League, Young Women's Christian Association,: Richmond Free Kinderten, Girls* Friendly Society for 'Promoting Health of Women and Children, Society for T Protection of Women, and Children, Girls' Peace Scouts, Pioneer Club, Girls' Realm Guild, wish to express, their regret at; your approaching departure from the Dominion Of New Zealand, and • their * Very . sincere apEreciation of your kind and generous elp "to all societies promoted for the benefit of women and /children. Your Excellency's example, tnd kindly help will be long .remembered, and we all wish, to express bur gratitude, and. offer good wishes to you arid your family for the-future;" The address was signed by the presidents and representatives of the abovementioned societies, in the order given :'- Laviriia Coates, Annie J. Chatfield, hon. secretary of '• the Victoria League, who apprbached; the other'societies witlr tile proposal and- found them pleased to cooperate. The engrossing and illuminat' ing was beautifully' performed by Mr., W. Bock, ; with pretty vignettes of typical scenes in the North and South Island set at the: corners of the pages and.showing "Wairoa geyser," "Mount Egmont," "Lake Taupb," "Wanganui River," "Canterbury Plains," ''Milford Sound/' ■ "Mount Cook,".'■: and "The Tsisman glacier." The border was a cleverly-drawn representation of typical Maori carving. • The outer frame of the wooden casket was iu maire tawhake, the inner slip'on the front in rewarewa (honeysuckle) and the centre panel of the front waved totara and the centre panel of the back totara. knot. , On the front was a coronet in silver and Her Excellency's, monogram: in enamelled silver. His Excellency the Governor, Lord Islington, will be farewelled»by the citizens'of Wellington at a gathering in the Town Hall this evening. No special invitations liaVe been , issued, though notifications have been sent to the local members of Parliament, local bodies, and institutions of the city, friendly societies, sports bodies, social clubs, arid industrial and labour councils, asking thai/they, snould be represented at the gathering. If members of friendly Societies decide to attend in'regalia, they will be grouped in one part of the hall.

The proceedings will commence at 8 o'clock, and a,musical programme has been arranged. The Royal Wellington Choral Society is to give several items.
