The Council continued its sitting after The Post went to press yesterday. Owing to the objections offered by the Houses it was decided not ,to insist on the amendments made by the Council in the Taieri Land Drainage Bill. WORKERS' ACCOMMODATION. "bunk" ■above th& other. ' PLUMPERS' REGISTRATION. The .Plumbers' Registration Bill was passed through all stages. ' RAILWAYS. 'When the "second reading of the Railways; Authorisation Bill was moved, the Hon. J. E. Jetikineon referred to the proposed, electrification of the Chrißt-chttrch-Lyttelton linei " , He ' hoped that the system of internal' combustion oilengines would not be overlooked. The Government should get the best expert advice on the Bystem. The Hon. C. M. Luke repeated his previously-expressed opinion that the Government should construct light feeding lines and develop the water power facilities of the country. The Bill was read a second time and put through all its. stages. THE PUBLIC SERVICE. . The Hon. H. D. Bell nioved the second reading of the'vPublic Service Classification BilL J The Hon. J. -E. Jenkinson hoped that the Government would ,take the Whole matter into consideration. He did hotwish to, be an, alarmist, but he trusted that the fund- would be placed on a- pro.per basis. ' The Hon. J. Anstey also protested against the Bill, and said that the burden placed on, the taxpayer to maintain it was quite unwarrantable. The general iaacp&yer derived absolutely no benefit from the. measure, and, there were hundreds of workers who were taxed to provide enormous superannuation benefits for people who received a good income. After the Minister had replied, the Bill was put through all its stages. ■ The Napier Harbour Board Endowment , and Improvement Bill < was put tlirough all its stages. * The Council rose at 10.20 p.m. until 11 a.m. to-day.
