MAGISTRATE'S COURT
Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., at the Magistrate's Court this morning, Ada Edward8 A alias Stewart, a prohibited person, who was found drunk, was fined 10s, or in defaitlt twenty-four hours' imprisonment. Edith Potter, for a similar offence, was fined sp. or in default twctity-four hours in gaol, and Evelyn Butler was declared an habitual drunkard, was fined 20s, or in default three days' imprisonment, and a prohibition order was issued against her. Kour Spanish greasers from the steamer Corinthic were convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and- one of them was ordered to pay 10s 6d medical expenses. A first-offender, on bail, for drunken ness, was fined 10s, or in default twenty four hours' imprisonment. Another pro hihifpd person, Hrtiry Richard Bnlding. pleaded guilty to being drunk, and was hned 10s, with the alternative of twenty
four hours in gaol. Timothy Donovan, who also broke his prohibition order, was fined £5, or twenty-one days' imprisonment in dpfault of payment. Christopher Truan, similarly charged, was also fined £3t3 t or in default twontyone days' gaol, nml for resisting the arresting constable was fined 20s, 01? seven days in gao] as the alternative. Lawrence Howard, a' fireman on tho Corinthic, pleaded not guilty to charges of being drunk and, assaulting Harry Mitchell. On the first charge he waa fined Bs. or twenty-four hours imprisonment, and for the assault 40s, with 4a costs . in default seven days' gaol. Fred White and Joscpli Hcmmings were re» inanded ( till the 25th inst. on a charge of stealing a silver watch, valued at £2 ss, the property of William Smlthman. Bail was allowed each accused in the sum of £10, with a surety for a lika amount. .The following offenders were charged with drunkenness at the Mount Cook Police Court this morning, before Mr. L. MKenaie, J.P Edward Waters was fined 10r. the alternative being, fixed at forty-eight hours' detent on. Thomas Maloney was mulcted in the sum of sg, in default twenty-tour fe Urs d #"V oni William Everest, Thomas Challern Leslie M'Oregof, and William Patterson were convicted and discharged.
