LIGHT LATERAL RAILWAY LINES

PAHIATUA, 20th August. A deputation of delegates from various local bodies in this and surrounding districts will wait upon the Hon. W.Fraser (Minister for Public Works) at Wellington on Friday afternoon, to urge the opening up of the Wellington East Coast district by the construction of light lateral lines. The deputation will comprise delegates from Pahiatua Borough

and County Councils and the District Progressive Association, Palmerston North Borough Council and Chamber of Commerce, and Dannevirke Borough Council and Chamber pf Commerce. The deputation will urge the construction of the following light feeder lines, aggregating 86 miles, in preference to over 100 miles of heavy line under tho MastertonWaipukurau loop-line scheme :—Dannevirke to Weber, 20 miles; Pahiatua to Pongaroa, 30 miles ; Eketahuna to Alfredton. 12 miles ; Masterton to Taueru, 12 miles ; Featherston to Martinborough, 12 miles.
