Young's evidence before, the Cost of Living Commission, figures are given by Mr. Young estimating the cost to the U-S.S. Company of the recent increases of pay to seamen on the s.B. Maori. The figures given, by Mr. "Young refer to th» engine-room-and deck department only. The only' increase of wages on that vessel, in the chief steward's department, is £1 ; per month to three members of the galley staff. The wages of stewards in. the U.S.S. There has been no increase of wages to stewards since 1904, and the increase granted to the galley staff since 1904 does not amount to more than £1200 per annum for the whole of, the Red Funnel fleet. — I am, etc., H. MARMENT, Secretary Federated Cooks and Stewards' Union. 11th July,
