MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL
The monthly meeting of the Makara County Council was heard to-day. There were present: .Councillors J. H. Heggarty (chairman), F. T. Moore, J. H. Taylor, H. . Eastwood, H. Monaghan, and G. Monk. ' ' A letter was received from the Health Department stating that offensive matter was being thrown, into the Ngahauranga Gorge stream, ■ ' The council decided to refer the' letter to the Wellington Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, with- a request that its inspectors should enquire 1 into the matter. It was resolved to call on some settlers at Newlands to' remove the gorse growing in their sections. An application by the Johnsonville School Committee that some metal should be placed on the approach to the schoolhouse from, the Hawtrey-road was not entertained. The chairman ..and Councillors- Monk and Moore" were appointed to wait upon the council's solicitors and ascertain the legal position regarding the proposed widening of the road> through Mr. William Cook's property at North Makara. The road .is only 10ft wide, and the council holds that it should be widened to half a chain. s
