Turtill, (representing the South Canterbury Con*' tro' of the New Zealand' Athlotio and Cycling Union) yesterday, in conjunction with Messrs. VY\ Crawehaw and C. Leoming' (representing the North Canterbury Centre of the union), conferred with mom' bers of the wholesale and retail cycle and rubber tradeo with reference to tho proposed prttmtotion this year of the TimaruChristbhuroh road race conjointly by the two centres. Tho opinion of all those who wore interviewed on the. subject was that, from a sporting point of view, ft was highly desirable that the event should not be allowed to lapse. A subscription list was opened up, with most encouraging result*. ■ prizes to the value of nearly £200 being readily donated. It is anticipated that the list when closed will total £300. Tho actual date of the race has not yet been definitely decided upon, but it will most likely bo Thursday, 12th September. This would allow intending competitors in the Warrnambool-Molbourne road race an opportunity of competing.
