At the annual meeting of the Associated Chambers of Commerce of Australia, the chairman, referring to the increase of £7,000,000 in the imports of last year, said much of this was due to luxurious and extravagant, living. Financial stringency would ensue if the imports were not prompetly decreased. . He expressed the hope that the Federal Government would do its utmost to settle the question of a direct service with Canada.
