SOME INTERESTING ITEMS IN THE PUBLIC ACCOUNTS. The Unauthorised Expenditure Account presented to Parliament to-day contains some very interesting items. The increases given the railway servants by resolution of Cabinet absorb no less than £16,000. Other items of individual interest are the following : — £250 per annum additional salary to the Solicitor-General as supervisor of the Crown Law Department, and for Bpecial advocacy from Ist April, 1911.Additional salary of £45 per annum to Mr. James Chrbitie (Assistant-Law Draughtsman) . Travelling expenses Rev. J. L. Kyall to Australia, in connection with the prison service, £44 7s 7d. Salary_ of the late H. S. Fitzherbert, S.M., New Plymouth, paid to his widow, £143 15s. Additional salary of £25 per annum to officer in charge of tho Government Buildings, W. H. Hennah, £25. Grant to cover expenses of trip to England of the Minister of Justice and private secretary, in connection with the Imperial Conference, the Webster claim, and the Te Akau Native land case, Sir J. G. Findlay, £800 ,• G. N. G. Poulton (private secretary), £301 10s. Special allowance to Ministers' private secretaries during the Prime Minister's absence from the Dominion, £165. Cost of passages and other expenses of Messrs. J. Hislop and F. G. Matthews accompanying the Prime Minister to the Imperial Conference and the Coronation, 1911— J. Hislop, £269 10s; F. G. Matthews, £180. Travelling allowances E. G. Butcher, Inspector of Explosives, visiting Aubtralia, £30. Travelling allowances Dr. Valintine, Inspector-General of Hospitals, attending iMedical Congress at Sydney, £17 12s Bd. Amount allowed to Lieutenant-Colonel Knox, aB lefund of cost of passage for nurse accompanying his family from London to Wellington, £3&\ Travelling allowances of Mr. D. C. Bates, Director of Meteorological Office, while inspecting meteorological reporting stations in Australia, £10 18s lOd. Compensation for military and other services granted by Major J. T. Large, £153.
