SALE OF A CITY PROPERTY
Messrs." W. E. Turnbull sold to»day by auction to the first mortgagees, th&* National Mutual Life Association,, for £9027 in 6d the block of buildings known as the Prouse Lumber Company'u, Taranaki-street. The. Ouilding is constructed in steel and concrete, and was erected three years ago. It is three i tones high, and consists of shops and offices, occupying land 132 ft frontage to raranaki-street and 120 ft deep. The auctioneer stated before the sale be^axi that £100 bids would be taken, subsequently he reduced th& bid to £50. A protest was made in the room against the limitation of bids to any specified sum, and after the property was knocked down a bid of £10 above the £9027 was made. The auctioneer declared, however, that the sale waa concluded, and he could not accept that bid.
