ELECTRIC LIGHT RETURNS
The following report an to the progress of the City Electric Lighting Department was eupplied to tho Tramways Committee of .the City Council yesterday by the Electrical Engineer :—- "Tho revenue of the Electric Lighting Department for tho Month of May, 1912, . amounted to £5769, an increase of £336, as compared with the corres* ponding month last year. The working expenses totalled £2251, or £21? inure than last , year. After providing for capital charges, there is a, net cit>dit balance lor the two months of tlm financial year of £2651, as compared with £2091, an increase of £560. During the month bf May 181 new connee* tiohs were made, which ie a. record {or now business in, any one mouth. Tho number of consumers now total 6891, which is dowblo the number oi connections to ilwj supply main* whon tho corporation took over the undertaking a -little under fivo yeai* ago."
