CORRESPONDENCE.

TYRANNY AND DISLOYALTY TO THE EDITOR. Sir, — In your leader of 2nd May you made use of my name, and I hope you will allow me to make an explanation. In the first place, I do not seek notoriety ;t it 'was thrust upon me. Secondly, if my name was quoted in the pamphlet, the author of the pamphlet used my name without consulting me. The article was taken from the Anticonscription number of the Maoriland Worker, * in which I justly protested against the brutal way my eldest son 1 was dragged from 'his work and placed in the common gaol for refusing to sink I his principles. I am not ashamed oJ what I v wrote ; it came from my heart. I deny the right of any Government to dictate to me as to what I shall do with my sons. By the behaviour of the college hooligans (who are organised to disturb our meetings) I do not deem theru, at any rate, qualifipd to boss my boy's on .parade. 'As to wnat 'this conscription is for, if it) is to protect property, that which I possess a Jap or a German would not ,take. the trouble to load on a dray;, if it -is 'to protect other people's property, to that I strongly object. ' Let tho people who have property spend their o\yn money and spill their own blood. In ' conclusion, I eincerely believe that military tram ing debases and demoralises, .arbitrarily curtails freedom, takes away self-respect, turns human beings into fighting machines, thirsting to kill something, subjects them to the snobbciy and msulcsof petty officers, and makes them cal-. lous at the sight of human suffering. — t am, etc., W. CORNISH, Senr.
