A landing was effected at Guiliphav without opposition. > A squadron, composed of the armoured ships Vittorio Emmanuele 111., Regina Elena, Napoli, and Roma, left Hampalia on Friday, with lights out, and proceeded at half-speed to the island ot Kharki, ten miles west of Rhodes. Another squadron followed, convoying the landing forces, totalling 8000 men. All were concentrated at 2 a.m., and, arriving otf Rhodes at 3.30, one section of the fleet made a demonstration in the harbour, while the other guarded the operation of disembarkation in % bay eight miles south of the town. The Turkish troops did not appeal, and ihe warships did not fire a shot. Th» Turk* withdrew to a plateau five miles south-west of Rhodes, where Admiral Ameglio immediately attacked them in order to prevent their withdrawing to the centre of the island. Several bayonet charges were made ; the Italians having five men wounded. Fifty Turkish prisoners were taken. The Turks are now on a small peninsula at the north end of the island, and the warships are able to co-operate in enfilading both Hanks. ROME, 6th May.
