The area of land concerned is 46 acres, and the price is' £4500. The Orakei Committee of tho City Council has decided to oppose this or any other transfer, and, as already intimated, the Mayor has been authorised to proceed to Wellington if necessary in connection with these transactions. Seen by a reporter with Tegard to the above transaction, the Mayor said he did not think there would be much difficulty in successfully opposing the transfers on the ground that these private dealings were not in the best interests of the Maoris. The city can do much better than this for the Maoris, and will havo no difficulty in proving it, said the Mayor in conclusion.
