NATIONAL GALLERY.

BRISK • BALLOT FOR PICTURES^ SATURDAY COLLECTION PROJECTED. Daily tho Baillie exhibition draws large numbers of patrons, who evidently find much pleasuie and hearty interest in, the splendid display of British art. The gallery will close between 10 and 11 o'clock to-morrow morning, out of reapect to the memory of the late Mr. Wardell, who, up to within the last few days, was taking an active part in the canvass for funds for the purchase of pictures for the National Gallery. A street collection, with the aid of ladies, will be ono means of enabling all sections of the public to do a good deed for themselves. The street box will take any coin, from a half-penny upwards, for the worthy furniehing of a picture- gallery for the people. • Tlie lady members of the Arts Club have announced their willingness to heartily help in such, a campaign, and it is expected that an all-conquering army will invade the streets on Saturday, 18th May, and that citizens will be glad to surrender at 6ight. Public favour, as shown by the voting by visitors to the gallery, continues to centre chiefly on about fifteen of the larger canvases. A count of the votes recorded up to last night showte that No. 26 in gallery 1, "The Green Gown." maintains' its handsome lead with 564 votes.
