BOROUGH COUNCILLOR AND A CONTRACT.
f»I TELEGRAPH— PHERS ASSOCIATION.] DARGAVILLE, This Day. An extraordinary vacancy having occurred on the Borough Council, Mr. F. A. dones, proprietor of the North Auckland Times, was returned against two other candidates. Hie return was questioned owing to a printing and advertising contract with tho council. The manager of the Times asked for the withdrawal of the contract, and the question was submitted to Dr. Bamford, of Auckland, who advised that Mr. Jones was disqualified and also ineligible to stand again unless the council agreed to the cancellation of the contract. Meanwhile, Mr. Jones offered to insert the borough advertisements free if the council agreed to cancellation. There was some objection to this course, but a majority of the council agreed to cancellation, so Mr. Jones is now considered eligible to stand for the position.
