SERIOUS ACCIOENT TO FIREMOTOR

A FIREMAN INJURED. At 11.57 a.m. to-day tho Fire Brigado received a call to tho Hospital laundry, but on arrival there thoy found that their services were not required. Whilst returning to tho siSUion the car, in charge of Superintendent Tait, was endeavouring to negotiate the corner ne»r the Caledonian Hotel, when the tiro of one ot tho front wheels camo oft. The car then became unmanageable, and crashed into a tramway pole, with tho result that one of the eight firemen, named Joseph Borrett, had his collai'-bono broken through boingthrown againßt the chemical reel on top of the motor. Borrett was taken to the Hospital, where the broken bone was eet, and ho was then removed to hie quarlors in the lure- Brigado Station. Two of the men •were thrown off the car, and bruised and ahskon, and the others on board also received a shock througk the impact with the tramway pole. Tho car was so badli' damaged that it-could not bo .brought back: to the station with itß own power. The petrol tank was bulged and bent, tho front wheels and axles were bent and partly broken, and considerable damage dono totho back wheels. The woodwork was smashed and the stops twisted. Fireman Hughes vna driving. Ho was ono of the men thrown off.
