A SUCCESSFUL YEAR, A very successful year's working is shown by tho annual balance-sheet of the City Electric Lighting Department just published. . l The operations for the year ended 31st March, 1912, resulted in a credit balance of- £6283, being carried to* • the" balance-sheet. The surplus from .the net revenue account was £8938, as compared with £4345 for the year 1910-11. Appropriations ,in 1911-12 totalled £2654, and in 1910-11, £4032.- The credit" balance transfex'red to the balance-sheet on 31st March, 1911, was £313, an amount exceeded, for the year just ended, by nearly £6000. ' ' . REVENUE ACCOUNT, • i Sale of current, etc., ' produced lasi year an income of £51,720. In 1910-11, sale of current, etc., produced £45,587. The prinicpal items of expenditure were: Generation of electricity, £14,219; distribution of electricity, £5031 ; gen>eral expenses, £5980: total working expenses, £25,323. In 1910-11 the working expenses totalled £23,609. A balance is carried to the net revenuo account of £26,487. The corresponding balance in 1910-11 was £21,977. NET REVENUE ACCOUNT. The net revenue account chows that the. balance of £26,487 has been, allocated as under, th£ allocations for 1910tll being shown in parentheses :~ Interest on capital, £7141 (£7496). Sinking fund, £3169 (£3149). Depreciation, £17,549 (£17,632). A balance of £8938 is carried to the appropriation account. The- corresponding balance in 1910-11 was £4345. The appropriation account shows the expenditure of a sum of £2654 in renewals of plant, repairs, amounts written off, etc., leaving a balance of £6283 to be transferred to tho balance-sheet. ' BALANCE-SHEET. The balatfte-sheet shows a total capital expenditure of £360,593. A credit balance of £6872 was brought forward from the previous year and the balanco for 1911-12 brings up the total credit balanco on the capital account to £13,155.
