Mr. Hector M'Leod presided for the first time at tho Miramar Borough Council meeting last evening. There were present— Councillors W Telford, S. M. Stone, C. B. Bowie, A. Grigs, anS H. A. Smith. Tho following committees were sat up : — Water supply and drainage, Councillor* Bell, Bowie, and Smith ; tramways, Councillors Stone, Grigg, and Bowie; recrea,tion grounds, Councillors Bowie, Stene, and Bell; tinanco, Councillors Bowie and Smith; gas and harbour, Councillors Bell, Telford, and Stone; lire brigade, Councillors Stone, Grigg, and Bowie; Town Hall, Councillors Bell 'and Stone; tree planting, Councillors Telford, Smith, and Bowie ; sinking fund commifceion, Councillor Bell, Tho Mayor was appointed to represent tho t council at the 'conference of local bodies to consider the Local Government j Bill, and also, with Councillor Bowie, lo i represent the council on the deputation in the Minister with regard to tho erec- j tion of a central railivuy .station for Wellington It' wa<! resolved that tho Post and Telegraph Department bo afforded ' every facility for placing telephones for public use in tho tramway waiting shed. Tho engineer recommended tho instrllatiuu of v hydraulic eomige lift in connection with tho drainage work now in progress. This was. approved.
