MAGISTRATE'S COURT.
Mr. W. G. Riddell. S.M., presided at Hho Magistrate's Court to-day. For insobriety, Edwacd Pack Owens was penalised hi the sum of 10e, and a first offender was convicted and discharged. Joseph Johnson, alias James Smith, and Rpbert ,Cato were charged with drunkenness and with breaches of their prohibition orders. Johnson was sent to Paka--toa'for a year, but as there was a doubt as to whether Cato was drunk or merely suffering from the effects of a previous <bout, for which he had been punished, ho« ',was discharged. Thomas Alfred Downey came up for ►sentence on a _ charge of theft of two 'razors, one shaving brush, ono canvas bag, and a pair of trousers-, of the total .value •of £5 7s 6d. As he had not previously •foeon 'before the Court, he was given a chance by the Magistrate, who convicted j him and ordered him to come up for sentence when called on. In the case in which J. O'Neill wj^s •charged with having assaulted Herman JHarry Rather (Harry Sandow) so as to 'cause* him actual bodily harm, a further remand was granted until Wednesday •ji&srt 1 . ...The new cordage factory which has bum erected iov the Wellington Cordage Company in Plunket-amiue, Petone, ,-\vas opened this afternoon. The building is a Jarge one, containing up-to-date •cordage machiuery, which will be driven hy a 30 h.p'. gas e ngine. A dynamo lias b&eh installed, and the factory will be lighted by electricity.
