TO THE BDITOR. Sir, — At a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Scottish Society of Wellington, New Zealand, hold last evening a motion was carried expressing the sympathy of the members, and condoning with the relatives of those who lost their lives in the wreck of the Titanic. A hope was also expressed, sir, 'that a subscription list would bo opened in aid of the sufferers; and 1 was instructed to forward you one guinea, which I enclose, to go towards tha relief of the widows and orphans of the crew of the ill-fated vessel. Trusting a. list will b& opened as suggested, ana tliat you will accept our mite 'as a small beginning, 1 am, etc., WILLIAM A. ALLAN, \ Secretary. 20th April.
Yesterday, at the offices of the Chief Inspector of Machinery, Mr. Archibald Walker, the newly-appointed Lloyd's Ship and Engineer Surveyor at the port of Wellington, was presented by Mr. Duncan, the head of the Inspection of Machinery Department, with a handsome gold watch, suitably inscribed, and also with a jewel caee for Mrs. Walker. Mr. Duncan, in referring to Mr. Walker's many years' service as an inspector of machinery, a surveyor of ships, an examiner of marine engineers, land engineers, and engine driveis in his departmsnt. stated that holiad been a splendid officer, showing great tact and judgment in carrying out all his duties. He ako stated that the presents were subscribed by all hid late colleagues in ihe service, who wished him every success in the future. In. reference to the overcrowded stata of the school, tlie following resolution was parsed at the meeting of houtsebolder« ai. tho Mitebelltown School last night -. — "That it be an instruction to the incoming committee to take into consideration the question ot increased accommodation at the school, and u> brinji pressure to bear uu the Education ]>oa.rd I and Department it> the name." Plans hdve already been prepared for the adding of another etoiy to tha present structure.
