KELBURNE FIRE BRIGADE TO THE EDITOR.
Sir, —At the annual general meeting of the Kelburne Volunteer Fire Brigade, held last week, reference was made to the evident lack of interest taken by, the community in the maintenance of an active local lire brigade, and a desire was expressed that a more general resiwcse ehould be made by the young men of the district to supplement the numbers of the limited brigade as it at present exists. j It must be apparent to all that , although has been fortunate in the limited number of its fires, it does not follow but that, owing to its elevated position, exposure to winds, and rough nature of the country, that conflagrations of a very serious nature may at any time take place. The existence of a fairly 6troug brigade means protection of property, and an svor-weleome assurance to the community that their losses will be reduced to a minimum. In such a_ cause, where services are voluntarily given, it is unreasonable that the burden of duty should devolve upon a few, and it therefore behoves the young' men to come forward and join the ranks of the local lirenien, io which end undersigned would be glad to l'pecivo names und enrol mumbars. —l am, etc., • JAMES WILSON, lion. Sec. K.V.F.B.
