A cyclone now centred to the westward ol Hokianga has brought heavy rain over the Nortb Island. Rain is also reported in the northern disfci'iettt of the South Island, and cloudy to overcast and gloomy skies are prevalent hi most parts elsewhere. Easterly gales are being experienced northwards of Kawhia. and East Cape, and moderate to strong easterly and northerly winds predominate at present elsewhere. FORECAST. At 9 ».m. the following forecast was issued for the subsequent 24 hours: — Winds. — Stormy, easterly, strong to a heavy gale, northward of East Cape and Kawhia, and c-lningiiig to southerly; easterly, Btrong to gale, backing to south-easterly, elbewhero after lroni 1G to 21 hourb. Barometer.— Fall fast, but rise fast in the northern dibtricts after 10 hours, and elsewhere alter from 16 to 24 hours. Sea. — Very heavy northward of East Cape; heavy southwards to Kaikoura aud in Cook Strait, oft the west coast of the North Island, aud rough to eon-slderable generally elsewhere. Tides.— High on all the eastern coast; poor on the west coast of the South Island; good generally elsewhere. Warning biguals for easterly gales are exhibited at Tiritiri and East Cape, and for socth-eafcterly at Capes Campbell, Farewell Spit, and Foulwind. and at Stephen Island, Nugget Point, and Centre Island.
