In the south drive, No. 7 level, there is 18in stone with gold showing, 768 tons of quartz have • been crushed for a return of 162qz 16dwt melted gold from battery, and 90oz lOdwt/ from cyanid,e ; total, 2530z 6d-vvt. Some little trouble has arisen through machine drills having to be worked .by one man instead of two, but it is not expected to be serious. The Consolidated Goldfields Company want men, but the union is warning them off. WAITANOI. A tenth sample taken from the r«ef at a distance of 3306 ft in the main drive for a width of 3ft 6in has given the following -assay : — Gold, £1* 7s 6d ; silver, Is sd; total vahie pel' ton, £1 3a lid. WAIHI EXTENDED. The manager of the Waihi Extended mine reports that in the No. 6 level the south-east crosscut has now been advanced 334 ft from the ehaft. The No. 6 winze has been sunk to a depth of 98ft, the last few feet being in footwali country, owing to the reef having dipped sharply. The greater underlie will account for the reef not being to hand in the No. 6 crosecut. Some water is now coming from the face of the drive, pointing' to the probability of stone being near at hand.
