SOCIALISM AND RELIGION.

Blamires, in addressing the Wellington Men's Brotherhood at The New Theatre yesterday afternoon, described a visit that he had paid , Socialist gathering at The King's 'U; tre on th© previous Sunday. As the oiu come of that vi&it he made, a stirrin> < appeal to the Biotherhood n<jt to be led \ away by speeches of the kind he ha*, heard, speeches full of opposition to re livion. Such Socialism as he had heard expounded on that occasion w£» without true ' method. and, moreover, was opposed to ■ its own aims, interests, and ambitions, and antagonistic to men. It placed men on a level with machinery, and iv no way tended to uplift them into tho dignity of true manhood. The economic conditions of life wetc much worse than they \verc| to-day, bub religion hiid played a prominent part in bringing about advanced social and moral conditions.
