TRENTHAM RACES.

MEETING CONCLUDED IN WET WEATHER. BRONZE AND COUNTERFEIT. (By Sir Bedivere.) Though a high wind blew in town during the forenoon and rain threatened, tho weather on arrival of the first trains nt Tienthain was found to be fine. The sun did not bhiue for long, however Before the second event was decided the sky became overcast, and the la&t half of the programme v.-a« run through under depressing conditions, thick, misty rain falling almost incessantly. There was a good attendance, and, in contrast to their experience on Wednesday, backers found winners easy to find, no less than seven first favourites being success /ul. The St. Leger wab, as anticipated, rather a tame affair, but it at least gave racsgoers another opportunity of seeing Counterfeit in action. What a pity that by some mischance Bronze had not been nominated ! " Mr. Highden's " filly was vi great fig, and, in winning the Autumn Handicap under 9.0, she put up thefinest performance yet achieved by a three-year-old filly at Trentham. Makara's success in the Suburban Handicap was both popular and well due, as he had been most unlucky to lose at least two of the last three «vente he had contested. Despite the inclement weather the sum of £22,336 was handled by the totalisator staff, making a total for the meeting of £42,022 10s, as against £29,941 last year. Bounding the turn, Odessa was a length in front of Undecided and Dearest, whilst Merrivonia now made a forward, move.
