SAWMILLERS' ASSEMBLY.
A conference of sawinillers representing 120 mills is at present bitting in Wellington, under th© presidency of Mr. Haybittle, chairman of the; Rangitikei bawinillert.' Association. The other representatives pieeent are Messrs. Seed and Trice (Hutt Valley), Irvine, Carpenter, » and Bartholomew (Rangitikei), Teniiaut, Moss, and Green (Greymouth), Thomas, and Quinlaii (Waira-l-apa), R. W. (Jilehrigt (Karamea). Matters of interefet to* the trade were discussed. It was pointed out that for ordinary building timber prices had not been changed for the past three years (when they were reduced by 6d per 100 ft), but ihat the increased wages, combined with the difficulty of obtaiuing thoroughly efiicient labour, had made the sawmillex's' lot of late a particularly hard one.
