At a meeting of the Boxing Council, a letter was received from Herbert, stating that he had decided not to. defend the title for the heavy-weight championship. The council resolved that the title should revert to Mitchell. An application from the Greymouth association to have, the match between Mitchell and Ireland at Greymouth on 18th May recognised ac for the heavy-weight championship, was granted. The Timaru association was given permission to announce the Hagerty-Ellis match on 24th April as fttt the feat her-w eight championship. J. J. Griffin wrote, announcing his retire ment from the ring.
