NATIONAL ART GALLERY.
'AN 'APPEAL TO THE CHILDREN. For the children's own sake and . for the city'e oaka the promoters of the piciuro movement for the National Art Gallery are looking for aid among tho ■bovts- and girte of ihe pilmary and secondary school*. A ciix-ulai' letter, explaining the national ideal, has been sent to t the headmaster of each school in the city and district in the hope that some helpful enthusiasm for art iviil be i-oused among the rising; generation. It i» anticipated that if ths interest of the young folk is eaujjht and held a picture may come from the combined primary schools of the- city and suburbs, and another, or " even one each, ' fr6m the Wellington Boys' and Girls' College*, St. Patrick's College, and the Technical School. Rural schools may also be induced to club together in the good cause. •It is a chance for the boy to prove father to the man arid the girl to be mother to the woman. This can- be done by a little self-denial, -beneficia l •to the young prospective citizen and to /the community. Tlia children of to-day are io be* that- vasfc body, tlit publir, nf the- future, and if they can now be "induced to have som* pride m the proj>ev «*tabli»hment of a National Arl Gallery will not m-ed to fear the gibes of sister rites jti the y«ir< to «ome. - The value of the aid of boys and girls in the»e movements and in plans of city improvement generally has been well recognised in a number of American towns. Young pepple have an abundance of energy, of which some can be turned to excellent account for a •city's good. Children, at an impressionable age, can have a sense of citizenship instilled into them, and here is v laio opportanity fcv parents and teachers to' AUh. " '' — '
