HILL LEAVING NEXT MONDAY. A meeting oi" the Olympic Council for New Zealand was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. Marryalt preoided, and Messrs. Keesing, Pollock, Hanna, Hill, Bayfield, Davios, and Guise were also present. The Chairman explained that since last meeting the sub-committee from the council waited on the Premier and explained to him that, as the amount required • to send representatives to the Olympic Games was so small, the council wished to withdraw the application for a Government subsidy made by the Auckland committee. Letters were. -received from the New Zealand Sports Protection League, donating £10 10s to the funds, and from the _ Wellington Licensed .Victuallers, donating £3 3s. The following wrote, stating that they could not assist : — Otago Centre, N.Z.A.A.A., Southland Centre, N.Z. A.A.A., P. N. Bundle, Dunedin. It was decided to take out a berth for G. N. Hill, the- Auckland runner, through the Union Steam Sfun Company — if possible his passage to bo booked right through to Stockholm. Hill will leave- Auckland on Monday next, Ist April. It was also decided that a letter be sent to Hill, giving him instructions, and setting out the conditions under which ho was being sent. \ The Chairman reported that so far the council's funds amounted, with promises, to about £140, and he suggested that in order" to raise the other £60 required, subscription lists should be issued to the councillors. In agreeing with the chairman's suggestion, members of the council spoke very strongly of tho action of the sports bodies in other centres in refusing to assist in what should be, and was, a; national affair.
