SERIES OF THEFT CHARGES

A young man named Henry Fraser Marshall appeared at the Magistrate's Court -to-day in connection with the following charges: — (1) Theft on 22nd March of a watch valued at £4, tho'property of B: F. Marsh; (2) on the same date theft of a safe key, valued at 10s, the' property of the churchwarden of St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral ; (3) on ISth March theft of a -watch, valued at £2 10t>, tlu> property of B. L. Dixon ; (4) theft of two diamond rings, watch, gold watch and j chain, and locket, the whole valued at £45, the property of Bert Darnell and Joseph Ellerson. - Mr. W. G. Biddell, S.M., was on the' Bench. Detective-Sergeant M'llveney conducted the prosecution in connection with the laefc named charge. . Detective Kemp gave evidence that in company with Detective Hammond he arrested accused. One ring had been sold to L. Sowrnau, tobacconist, Lamb-, tun-quay, for 355; the watch to Wm. H. Williams, 21, Barker-street., for 25e ; the chain to W. L. Jennen, Manners-street, for 27s (id ; and the other ring (without the stone) to H. J. Freeman, Mannersstreet, for Bs. Tho stone and the locket were still missing. The fourth charge (indictable) con- j cerned thefts *Tom The Mansions, Ghuz-nee-etreet. After hearing the evidence,' accused pleaded guilty, and was committed to the Supremo Court for sentence. ! On the first three minor charges, Marshall had previously pleaded guilty. Today he was sentenced to three months' imprisonment on each coiiht, terms to run concurrently.
