PERSONAL MATTERS.
The Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) t returned from Gisborne last evening. Mr. Evan Parry, the Government Electrical Engineer, was a passenger from the South by the Mararoa this morning. --Mr.- W; Holmes, Engineer-in ; Charge of the Public Works Department, retained from the South this morning. Ho will go on to Napier to-morrow to meet tie Australian engineers who are to report upon the Napier harbour >, works. Mr. Frank MTariand, of M'Parland Bros., who has recently taken over the Tramway Hotel, was the recipient a few days ago of a gold sovereign case, suitably inscribed, from the . members of the bakery staff. The presentation was mad© by ,Mr. J.^ Chapman, who has been wit£ the firm for many years. Mr. F, A. de la Mare, 8.A., LL.B., who has been in tho Department of Internal Affairs for some years, is abont to go to Port Chalmers to practise there as a solicitor. Mr. de la Mare was admitted as a, barrister and solicitor by the Chief Justice (Sir Robert Stout) to-day, on the motion of Mr. H H. Ostler. According to a Press Association telegram Inspector Cullen has been deluged with telegrams and letters of congratulation on his appointment to the Police Commissionership. These nave been received from persons of all shades of political thought, and from those connected with almost every business and profession: throughout the Dominion. Mr. Charles E. Foraham, who haa D©eai m the service of Messrs. W. and G. Tnrnbull and Co. for twenty-six years, has resigned in order to join the staff of Messrs. A. •R. Hislop and Co., in this city. "In token of his long and meritorious services rendered*" his late employers presented him with a silver rose bowl, and he also re"oeived presentations from the office staff and the store hands. Nominations for membership of the Victoria College Council have Jjeen received as under -.—Education Board's representative, Mr. R. M'Callum, M.P. ; teachers* representative, Mr C.
