MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M., presided at the Magistrate's Court to-day. Two young girls, Sylvia M'lntyi-e, alias Seymour, and Gertrude Hilda Neaber, who were convicted of theft some weeks ago, were sent back to the Salvation Army Home, from which institution they escaped a few days ago. Jesse Underwood and Herman Reich were fined 10s, and _20s respectively for drunkenness. Prohibition orders were also issued against each defendant. Lawrence Power was convicted and discharged for drunkenness, and fined 40s, with the option of two days" detention for a breach of his prohibition order. Thos. Henry Fraser Marshall, who was arrested by Detectives Hammond and Kemp, pleaded guilty to (1) theft of a watch, valued at £4 from Benjamin F. Marsh } (2) theft of a safe key valued at 10s. the property of the churchwardens of St. Paul's Pro-Cathedral ; (3) theft of a silver watch valued at £2 10s, the property of B. L. Dixon; and (4) theft from "The Mansions," in Ghuzneestreet/ of two diamond rings and two watches of the total value of £45, the property of B. Durnall, and J. Eleraon. He was remanded until Wednesday next. Captain Croucher, of the s.s. Kiripaka. was fined £2 with witnesses' expenses 4s, for carrying a seaman to sea on several voyages without having first Mgued him on in the manner prescribed by the Shipping and Seamens Act. Captain G G. Smith, Marine Superintendent, who prosecuted, said it was Captain Croucher's second offence, and the department asked fora heavy penalty.
