Lord Denman, the Governor-General, speaking at the Newcastle Chamber of Commerce banquet, denounced strikes. He admitted that lately the workers' wages and conditions needed revision and readjustment. By a strike they ran the risk of diverting trade, which it wae impoEflible to restore.
