FARMERS' PROTEST.
AGAINST RISE IN CHAtfFCUTTING RATE. iat IBLndEAPH-'-I'BASS ASSOCIATION^ BLENHEIM, This Day. A well-attended meeting of farmers on Saturday passed a resolution nrotesting again«t the proposal of machine-owners to raise the chaffcutting rate from 7» to 10s 6d per ton, and binding themselves to do their own cutting if the advance is persisted in, thus taking their patronage out of the hands of buyers. It was stated that tho increase was due to pressure being brought by local merchants with a view to the exclueiou of outside dealers, the arrangements being that' only farmers selling to merchants in the district should hay« the benefit of the lower rate of cutting. A letter was received from the Ma-chine-owner's' Union, stating its intention: to revert to the old rates.
